Review July 2011:
It is finished. A short way after getting into it I wasn't sure I wanted to go on; it is written with such poignance---I so felt the distress and sorrow---yet I was pulled back into it perhaps because there was an uplifting at the end of each chapter---a Promise of God interlaced. Beautifully written!

I am in awe at the extra measure of physical, emotional and spiritual strength that carried you through this ordeal; then relived through "A Journey Through Fire"---so appropriately titled. The wealth of information contained in this book is such a gift to anyone facing the same challenges.
You state--a Memoir. I see it as so much more---a great love story exhibiting deep love, courage and devotion (and written from the heart). And because of your testament of faith, which is evident throughout, it is a Tribute to God. May He bless you immeasurably.
__________________________________________________________________________Review April 2011: The heartfelt story between the pages of Journey Through Fire will touch hearts with the love and devotion of a wife who puts everything else aside including her own well-being to care for her husband, Bill, afflicted with ALS. The trials they shared and endured, we would hope for no one to go through but some do everyday. This book is a beautiful inspirational story that brings the message of the Bible and the spirit of poetry to give strength to those dealing with ALS. An excellent written account of a care giver's difficulties in obtaining sufficient information about the disease and answers to a lot of the daily concerns are addressed with references as to journals/web sites. A very informative read.

Review April 2011: This is a true story told by the author, Shirley Knight, about her husband Bill who suffered with ALS. Although her story is devastating, being a nurse for over 30 years, she sheds a light on the disease by taking the reader on a journey through the diagnosis of her husband, the stages of the disease, and the struggles she went through as caregiver, wife, and a Christian. The book is informative, filled with references to helpful sites that were used by Shirley and her husband, situations they were faced with regarding medical decisions and insurance hurdles, and favorite passages from the Bible that gave them strength and courage. My favorite one being the verse that was the inspiration for the title of the book, A Journey Through Fire. When you walk through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you, When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flames scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior.... Isaiah 43:2-3
